Aprilia Los Angeles has not gotten an update in a very long time. One of the reasons is that I have been working on a motorcycle news website called FAST3R. Here's the scoop.

Motorcycle Daily is reporting that Aprilia will start producing their 450 V-twin Supermoto in Race and Street versions starting next year. This would be a very surprising rebound for Aprilia which hasn't had a major product release in almost 2 years. Expect a 2007 model at the earliest. Motorcycle Daily

The latest project of the Italian Police in collaboration with their Spanish colleagues, the Delegación de Cataluña, was conducted as an international caravan which crossed the Straight of Gibraltar after having stopped in Barcelona, Murcia, and Algeciras. Four of Aprilia "Caponord Rally-Raids", already protagonists of the association's initiatives in various European and African regions, escorted the prestigious convoy of medical volunteers headed for rehabilitation centers in the Tangiers area from December 26th to January 4th. In the same way that scooter success never became big twin sportsbike dominance against Ducati, Aprilia was never able to transition its winning formula from 125 and 250 two strokes to MotoGP. The "Cube" was an innovative and interesting addition to the field. Its use of Formula 1 technology may point toward the future for motorcycle road racing's top class, but Aprilia couldn't capitalize on the promise before financial difficulties brought the effort to a premature conclusion. Today's Monterey Herald features an article about the return of MotoGP to Laguna. The event will be officially named the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix and is tentatively scheduled for July 8-10, 2005. Link

Italian Wedding - Piaggio and Aprilia

Looks like it's more and more likely that Italian motorcycle manufacturer Aprilia will be taken over by Italian scooter manufacturer Piaggio.

Aprilia Motorcycle's shareholders have signed a preliminary agreement with Piaggio, giving them the possibility of purchasing 100% of Aprilia.

Personally, I think this is a better match than Ducati buying Aprilia, since Piaggio does not have any motorcycles of the Aprilia type in their product range (Gilera and Derbi), while Ducati only has sports motorcycles. But still better would be a marriage between Aprilia Motorcycles and Bombardier !! Link
